Juli Beth Hinds is a lecturer and staff research associate in the Department of Urban Studies and Planning. She teaches undergraduate courses in Land Use Planning, Planning for Sustainable Communities, and the US Health Care System. Her academic research and consulting practice center on equitable approaches to financing, design, and implementation of decentralized water systems and green infrastructure throughout the United States, with a strong focus on the unique problems of small, rural, and disadvantaged communities. She worked for over a decade as a municipal planning and stormwater utility director in her home state of Vermont, and now supports planning and research with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, National Sea Grant Program, and state and municipal governments throughout the United States.
Hinds is an active member of the Water Environment Federation (WEF) and its non-profit charitable affiliate, Jammin4Water. She was the inaugural Chair of WEF's Stormwater Research Symposium of the Water Environment Federation, served for ten years on the Water Research Foundation (WRF) Decentralized Research Advisory Committee, and is past chair of the American Planning Association's Environment, Natural Resources, and Energy Division.
